Meteora Greek Monasteries
The times we live in today are dramatic and often dangerous
Norms shift and change quickly and people resist realities
Advent invites us to examine our personal foundation
Are our houses built on rock or on sand?
The Prophet Isaiah (26:1-6) gives this promise:
“A strong city have we; he sets up walls and ramparts to protect us. Open up the gates to let in a nation that is just, one that keeps faith. A nation of firm purpose you keep in peace; in peace, for its trust in you…Trust in the Lord forever!”
Christ is the Rock and Advent is the time to rebuild the house
…Lord keep us firm in our resolve to stand on firm Rock….
An Ancient Prayer for the 21st Century
People today seem to hunger for healing and love without knowing where to go for it.
The Prayer of Jabez may just be the antidote for deliverance.
For three years, Jesus roamed throughout the desert guiding and rescuing the Israelites from all their sufferings with abundant miracles and acts of mercy, yet he persevered to his crucifixion, death and resurrection.
Jesus on his final journey to Jerusalem said, “Even if you do not believe me, believe the works.”
Offering a prayer like the Prayer of Jabez, and asking for courage and strength to stand on holy ground when confronted with darkness, does work, because God will do the rest, it’s that simple.

The Assumption of Mary
by Nicolas Poussin
Today August 15, the Roman Catholic Church honors Mary, Mother of Jesus Christ, who was assumed body and soul into Heaven after 69 years on earth. This event took place in Jerusalem’s Upper Room with the Apostles and followers of Christ gathered together.
Details of Mary’s life and glorious transition is contained in the book entitled “The Mystical City of God.” Through visions given by Mary to a 17th century Spanish nun, Mary of Agreda, Mary’s history is recorded. Most everything one could wish to know and encounter about the Mother of God is found in this magnanimous text – each time I re-read this book, I am singularly transformed with reverence and awe.
Mary’s lasting prayer to the world
“Dearest Children, always have I kept you with that tender love and charity, which was given to me by my divine Son, whom I have seen in you, his chosen friends…I now go to the eternal mansions, where I promise you as a Mother I will look upon you by the clearest light of Divinity.”
“My Children, love the Church, and love one another with that bond of charity, which your Master has always inculcated upon you.”
(Chapter VI, p. 768 and John 13, 34)
