Smartphone Gaps

HAIBUN

I have traveled extensively, and before smartphones flooded our hands, people watching was a favorite past-time while waiting to board a subway, train or plane.  Today the public square is a vast ocean of drooping heads, fingers skimming the keyboard of social media.  What is surprising are peoples’ faces showing a flux of constant reaction to incoming texts or videos.  Those smartphone gaps could be turned into a creative pause for reflection and personal dialogue with others.
