THOSE NOISY CRITTERS

The Noisy Critters of Provence – Cicadas

HAIBUN

O those sticky hot summer days in Southern France – I can still vividly recall them especially after enjoying a robust lunch, everybody gets sleepy for a siesta.  The hotter the temperature gets, the louder do the cicadas sing and croon for mating.  Then around 4 o’clock the shopkeepers reopen their doors and the rhythm of life resumes.

FAMOUS CIGALES MATE

…the Cicada legend continues…

“Il ne fait pas bon de travailler quand la cigale chante.”

…translated…

“It’s not good to work when the cicada is singing.”

The Cicada is Provence’s mascot found in all sorts of bric-a-brac for tourists like…
