DECEMBER 12 FEAST OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE
PATRONESS OF THE UNBORN
On December 9, 1531, the Virgin Mary gave these words to Juan Diego:
“I am your merciful Mother, the Mother of all the inhabitants on this land and all the rest love me, invoke and confide in me. I truly will listen to their cries and their sadness in order to remedy all their sorrows, their miseries, and their pains.” (Quote from Monsignor Chavez)
For 476 years the miracles of this shrine at the Basilica of Mexico City continue to baffle pilgrims and scientists regarding the intact preservation of Mary’s image on Diego’s tilma, both made from threads of the maguey cactus fiber. To date, the bluish-green color of Mary’s mantle has never been replicated by any artist.
