DECEMBER MIRACLE

FEAST OF SAINT JUAN DIEGO (1474-1548)

Juan Diego, a native of Mexico, is the first indigenous saint from the Americas, beautified in 1990 and canonized in 2002.

On December 9, 1531, Mary appeared to Juan on the hill of Tepeyac, now known as Mexico City.  She requested the bishop to erect a chapel for all those praying in distress, but he did not react.  Mary appeared 3 more times to press Juan to return to the bishop who then asked for a sign from the Lady.  She told Juan to collect flowers from the hill and carry them in his ’tilma.’  When Juan opened his mantle before the bishop, as the flowers fell to the ground, the bishop discovered the sign, the imprint of Mary’s image,  recognized as our Lady of Guadalupe.

This miracle brought about the conversion of nine million indigenous people during the span of ten years.

AND ALL FLESH SHALL SEE IT TOGETHER.”
